Resume
L’Autorité du Bassin du Niger (ABN) a été créée en novembre 1964 pour promouvoir la coopération entre les pays membres et assurer un développement intégré du bassin du Niger. Elle compte neuf (9) États qui ont en commun le Bassin du fleuve Niger : Bénin, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinée, Mali, Niger, Nigeria et Tchad.
Pour faciliter la compréhension commune des enjeux, les Chefs d’État et de Gouvernement ont élaboré et adopté une vision partagée qui consiste à « faire du bassin du Niger, un espace commun de développement durable par une gestion intégrée des ressources en eau et des écosystèmes associés, pour l’amélioration des conditions de vie et la prospérité des populations à l’horizon 2025 ». Une série d’études a également permis d’identifier les besoins des États membres et d’élaborer conséquemment un Plan d’Action de Développement Durable (PADD) et un Programme d’Investissement (PI) échelonné sur vingt (20) ans.
