L’Afrique subsaharienne a connu ces dernières années une croissance économique remarquable et un retournement positif de certains indicateurs du développement humain.
Malgré tout, elle continue d’être la région du monde où l’insécurité alimentaire est la plus grande.
Le paradoxe est de taille: existence d’excédents mondiaux de produits alimentaires, persistance de la faim et de la malnutrition sur un continent au vaste potentiel agricole
Cependant, rien ne voue les populations de l’Afrique subsaharienne à une vie entière d’insécurité alimentaire.
La sécurité alimentaire durable est facteur important du développement humain.
Une population bien nourrie et autonome a plus de chances de s’instruire, de participer à la société et d’augmenter son potentiel humain et économique
Le présent Rapport sur le développement humain en Afrique 2012 soutient que l’Afrique subsaharienne peut s’affranchir de l’insécurité alimentaire persistante et amorcer un développement humain durable.
